Italian Cheese and Wine

I am delighted to confirm the details of this week’s Italian Cheese and Wine offering, available to Members and their guests on Friday and Saturday from 2.00pm onwards.

Booking in advance is not strictly necessary, but we are always grateful for notice where it can be given (plus it means a shorter wait for your cheese!).

The Cheese Plate

Pecorino al Tartufo Bianco, Cacio de Venere

Called ‘the cheese of Venus’, this Tuscan Maremma sheep’s cheese is matured for ten months with the addition of white truffles. The result is uniquely intense, spicy, and elegant.

Quintano

A raw sheep’s cheese from Lombardy, and the winner of Best Artisan Cheese at the World Cheese Awards in 2019. From a small family dairy, this cheese is delicate, perfectly poised, and slightly sweet. Lengthy maturation causes the cheese to become firm and more intense.

Robiola Bosina

A mixed (cow and sheep) cheese with a supple, springy texture and a bloomy rind. Firm but with a yielding, creamy centre which develops with aging. The morish crust is almost as delicious as the buttery, milky heart. A Piedmontese staple, and one of its most iconic dairy exports.

Gorgonzola al Cucchiaio, Famiglia Arrigoni

Possibly the finest Gorgonzola you will find changing hands this side of the Alps. This exceptionally rich, creamy blue cow’s cheese is so soft that it must be spooned. The flavours are tangy and grapey yet gentle, never cloying or sickly. An almost unfeasibly decadent treat!

La Tur, Alta Langa

Alta Langa’s most distinctive cheese – this La Tur is made from a mixture of the milk of cows, sheep, and goats. It has the texture of ice-cream and the richness of triple-cream, with a pungent, piquant flavour which works beautifully with fruits and chutneys. Another one which would benefit from a spoon!
